I was born and raised in Covington, La., but now live in Wilmington, N.C. I always loved the idea of working in wellness. I joined the U.S. Navy right after high school, working in the Great Lakes Naval Hospital for 2 1/2 years before moving to North Carolina to serve as a field medical corpsman with the Marines.
Serving our country is a tradition that runs deep in our family. My grandmother and my grandfather both served in the military. I learned a lot from my time in the armed forces, especially about paying attention to detail and how important it is to be a team player. I will carry those lessons with me always. As soon as I became a mom, I knew I needed more flexibility so I could focus on my family.
Finding Herbalife Nutrition in 2010 after I got my degree in health and physical education was memorable. It changed my life. You know how sometimes someone asks you what you’d do every day if money didn’t matter, or if you won the lottery? I would still choose Herbalife every time.
What I Love About My Work
There are so many reasons I enjoy what I do. With my work as a health educator, Herbalife Nutrition provides hands-on, simple solutions for my clients. So I’m not just giving them information about how to improve their wellbeing—we provide products that can support people on their journey to achieve their personal nutrition and wellness goals.
I love the freedom of expression I have running and designing my own nutrition club, and all the people I see. Every day, I promote an active lifestyle by offering community weight loss challenges, fitness camps and sharing ideas for different activities that can help move the needle on people’s wellness.
I wasn’t always a social person, but now I wake up every morning looking forward to meeting new people and catching up with my regulars. I love making them the most nutritious meal of the day, seeing their progress, and celebrating with them.
One of the most surprising things is that I went into this work to help others, but it’s also helped me. The support and encouragement I get from the Herbalife Nutrition organization has significantly contributed to who I am as a person today. For example, I used to try to avoid talking to new people, but this work has dramatically helped me to improve my communication skills. Now I love chatting to strangers. Everywhere I go, I wear the Herbalife Nutrition brand and button with pride, which is a great icebreaker. I invite people to check out my nutrition club and try a free smoothie. Just being friendly and smiling is such a great way for people to see the Herbalife Nutrition brand in a positive way. The human connection is so powerful.
The other really important thing I’ve learned is that Herbalife Nutrition is a vehicle that, when you commit and do it right, gives you the opportunity to build a strong, sustainable business. It takes time to build a foundation. Everyone has different timeframes and circumstances, but if you continue to do it, despite the struggles, then you can make a positive impact and leave a lasting legacy. Never quit.
On Veterans Day
I honor my country and those who serve every single day. But Veterans Day, to me, is a special way for the community to express their gratitude toward everyone who has given a portion of their life to allow Americans the freedoms we enjoy. I know that so many veterans face all kinds of challenges. I want to remind my brothers and sisters who served to take care of their wellbeing—there are people who want to help you. We love you.
