How We Are Supporting At-Risk Populations
Through our Nutrition for Zero Hunger initiative, we are committed to ending world hunger, supporting global nonprofit organizations with critical resources and expertise to ensure people in need have access to good nutrition.
During times of crisis, the need to ensure access to food is critical. That is why Herbalife Nutrition and the Herbalife Nutrition Foundation have taken steps working alongside leading organizations to ensure that these communities have the resources to provide access to healthy, nutritious food.
These are some of the steps we have taken towards supporting vulnerable populations:
Globally, Herbalife Nutrition is supporting large-scale COVID-19 relief efforts:
- World Food Program USA (WFP USA), we’ve pledged $1 million designated to an Emergency Response Fund. The Fund provides food and lifesaving support to people in need at the onset and recovery from a disaster or emergency. WFP USA is currently utilizing this Fund to support WFP programs and logistics where the need has escalated due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Because of the support of partners like Herbalife Nutrition, WFP is in a strong position to tackle this virus, but there’s still much more to be done,” said Barron Segar, President and CEO of World Food Program USA. “The outbreak has been devastating to families worldwide and requires an unprecedented response from business partners to humanitarian and government agencies.”
In the U.S., Herbalife Nutrition is supporting vulnerable populations affected by COVID-19:
- Together with the Herbalife Nutrition Foundation, we partnered with Feed the Children for U.S. support of food programs and services, targeting areas with significant needs due to school closures, which escalate food insecurity.
“Feed the Children is taking action to ensure our neighbors aren’t forgotten. Eighty percent of our standard domestic work involves supplying community partners (like food pantries and soup kitchens) with the bulk of the items they need to do their daily work. This will continue. Our trucks will keep moving across the U.S. to bring support to those families who need it. We expect our work to only increase during these unprecedented times, said Travis Arnold, President and CEO Feed the Children. “Through our vast network of community and corporate partners like Herbalife Nutrition, we are continuing to work each day to ensure that no child is hungry.”
- As a part of our Healthy Communities partnership with the City of Fontana, we are supporting their Healthy Fontana program through donation of dense protein bars to supplement nutrition for older adults living in care facilities.
“These moments that we are going through do not define us as a city, a state or a country. These have been difficult days for all of us. But the residents, business owners and employees have rallied together to provide essential services to our most vulnerable populations,” said Acquanetta Warren, Mayor, City of Fontana. “Partnerships with local businesses such as Herbalife Nutrition, adds tremendous value to our Senior programming and remind us that this community is Fontana Together.”
- Supporting front line workers facilitating COVID-19 testing, Herbalife Nutrition donated nutrient-dense protein bars to the City of Carson. The program was led by the City of Carson as a proactive response to the COVID-19 testing crisis in Los Angeles County.
- We supported Feed the Children and a local nonprofit, A Community of Friends, to distribute food and Herbalife Nutrition products, including nutrient-dense snacks and hygiene items such as shampoo, conditioner, and soap to more than 200 families in need in South Los Angeles.
- We supported the YMCA Ketchum Downtown Los Angeles Healthy Kids Day, the organization’s national initiative to improve the health and well-being of children and their families. The event included the distribution of a Grab & Go bag for families, providing 400 meals as well as kid-friendly activities.
- More recently, as part of our Nutrition for Zero Hunger initiative, we supported YMCA Ketchum Downtown Los Angeles by helping distribute 2,000 meals from the National School Lunch program to families impacted by COVID-19.
