Simon Sum is the North American Director of Scientific Affairs. He’s also a Member of the Dietetic Advisory Board.
Prior to joining Herbalife, Dr. Sum was the Clinical Nutrition Manager at Alhambra Hospital Medical Center in California. There, he managed clinical dietitians, technicians and interns, and provided nutrition care to patients. In addition to acute care settings, Dr. Sum was the Nutrition Consultant for Couple Adult Daycare Health Centers.
Dr. Sum has taught nutrition at both the University of Southern California and California State University, Long Beach. He was appointed by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics to serve the Interoperability and Standard Committee from 2014-2017. He was also elected Chairman of the Chinese Americans in Dietetics and Nutrition in 2012.
Dr. Sum earned his Doctorate in Clinical Nutrition (DCN) from Rutgers University. He also holds two master’s degrees, one in Nutritional Science from California State University, Long Beach and one in Medical Research from the University of Hong Kong. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Food and Nutrition Sciences from the University of Hong Kong, where he was also an exchange student. He studied Educational Sciences at the University of Amsterdam.
Dr. Sum is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN), a Certified Personal Trainer of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM-CPT) and a Fellow of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (FAND).
