Plant-based proteins are more than just a trend. The rising demand for these types of products is a reflection, among other things, of an increasingly health-conscious consumer.

While soy may be the king of plant-based proteins, it certainly isn’t the only option in the market. Here are a few popular soy alternatives:

Pea Protein

Pea protein supplies adequate amounts of 8 of the 9 essential amino acids that a healthy body requires. Like other proteins, it is also very effective for helping you feel satiated, thus helping to curb cravings.

Quinoa Protein

Quinoa has a higher protein content than other grains such as corn or barley. This protein can be extracted from the quinoa and concentrated into a powder form, which is usually found as part of a plant-protein blend that may also contain protein from pea, rice or seeds such as sesame or hemp.

Rice Protein

Rice is best known for being rich in carbohydrates. However, it also contains a considerable amount of high-quality protein, which can also be concentrated into the form of a protein powder. One study also shows that, for those who love resistance training, consuming rice protein after exercise is as effective as milk-based whey protein in supporting exercise performance.

These plant proteins do not contain dairy or lactose, making them a viable option for people with some of the most common allergies.
