I grew up admiring my father’s hard work and determination as a businessman. We moved around the country quite a bit – from Chicago to Philadelphia – to support his career and ensure he had opportunities to build his business. When I started my own family, this same admiration continued as I watched my husband grow his dental practice.
I met my husband while I was a dental assistant, but when we had our two children, we decided it was best that I stay home to care for them. When they were old enough, I decided I, too, wanted to find fulfilling work outside the home. Never in a million years did I think I would find my business calling while holding and wiping dirty diapers and noses.
But, that’s exactly what happened.
Like many new moms, I had trouble losing the baby weight after I had our second child. I was feeling tired and frustrated that my efforts to lose the extra weight were going nowhere. I started working out of my living room, and after years of hard work, I was able to open my own Nutrition Club—a non-retail location where all my customers come to hang out and talk about their health and wellness goals and challenges.
I’ve been operating my Herbalife business for 24 years and what I love most about it is the opportunity it gives me to connect to my community and neighbors in ways I wouldn’t have been able to othere. A lot of my customers are moms who have seen me change my lifestyle and were looking to do the same. Together, we’re changing our diets for the better and reaching our wellness goals.
This experience hasn’t just helped my customers. It’s helped me grow and develop as a business owner. I feel confident, independent and inspired by Herbalife Nutrition’s mission to bring good nutrition to communities around the world. I’ve always wanted to be part of a cause greater than myself, and this certainly fulfills that longing. Plus, at 62 years old, I feel great!
It’s very rare that you hear about people doing something for a living that they truly enjoy. But every day, I wake up knowing I’m helping people believe in themselves and adopt an active lifestyle, all while I grow my own business and help support my family.** What more can you ask for?
I know I’m lucky to have found such a rewarding occupation operating my own small business and I hope others can find meaningful work that gives them the same level of personal fulfillment I have found.
