Chocolate and Almond Turrón

  • 200 g (1 ¾ cups) whole almonds (with skins)
  • 200 g (7 ounces) dark chocolate (85% recommended, chopped or in pieces)
  • 2 TBSP extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 serving (28 g) Herbalife Nutrition Protein Drink Mix
  • 1 serving (26 g) Herbalife Nutrition Formula 1, Smooth Chocolate*
  • 1 serving (7 g) Herbalife Nutrition Beta Heart*
  • Preheat the oven to 200°C / 375°F / Gas mark 5.
  • Place whole almonds on a baking tray and cook them in the oven for 8-10 minutes, until golden inside the skins. Take out of the oven and set aside.
  • While the almonds are cooking, line the base and sides of an 18 cm (7-inch) cake tin with parchment paper.
  • Place the chocolate in a bowl and sit over a saucepan with a few centimeters of water inside, on a high heat. Bring the water to a boil then remove from the heat, with the chocolate bowl still sitting on top, allow the chocolate to melt slowly.
  • Once the chocolate has melted, add in the extra virgin olive oil, Protein Drink Mix, Formula 1 Smooth Chocolate, and Beta Heart. Mix well.
  • Scatter the roasted almonds into the lined tin, then pour the chocolate mixture over to cover and spread the top to level it.
  • Place it in the fridge (or in the freezer) to set, then cut into 1 cm slices to serve.
  • Keep this stored in the fridge.

Susan Bowerman is the senior director of Worldwide Nutrition Education and Training at Herbalife. She also serves as the Vice Chair of the Dietetic Advisory Board (DAB). As a registered dietitian, she educates distributors about our global nutrition philosophy and is responsible for developing nutrition education and training materials. Bowerman earned a B.S. in Biology with distinction from the University of Colorado and an M.S. in Food Science and Nutrition from Colorado State University. She is a fellow of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and holds two board certifications as a specialist in Sports Dietetics and in Obesity and Weight Management. When she is not busy teaching and writing, Susan enjoys spending time with her family, cooking and gardening.
